Talking Terpenes…

Welcome to a new page of our site. This is where we’re going to talk terpenes. Everyone looks at THC levels and asks “sativa” or “indica”. But as more and more research comes out, we — the cannabis consumers — are finding out that there is a lot more to this wonderful plant.

Terpenes — naturally occurring compounds found in many plants. They are responsible for the fragrance, taste and pigment of plants.

There are four classifications of terpenes. They are as follows:

Monoterpenes — medicinal use: fragrances/repellant

Sesquiterpenes — medicinal use: treatment against malaria, bacterial infections and against migraines

Diterpenes — medicinal use: anti-inflammatories and cardiovascular disease

Triterpenes — medicinal use: wound healing and increasing circulation.

Terpenes from cannabis has been used for centuries. We didn’t know why it worked, we just knew it did. So, let’s talk about some common sources of terpenes.

Tea tree — treats cutaneous infections

Thyme — antibacterial and antifungal properties

Spanish sage — enhances memory and is used in anti-dementia drug

Citral — antibacterial and antifungal

Lemongrass — insect repellent.

So, in the upcoming weeks, we’re going to talk about terpenes commonly found in cannabis, what those terpenes do. Why are we doing this? Because maybe you are looking for a strain that helps with concentration and focus, but you need something to calm down the body. Sativa? Indica? Hybrid? You need to check the terpenes. I hope you’ll join us on this new project, so you can become a smarter cannabis consumer.
